Universal Potteries Batter Pitcher Tip Top Jug

Offered is a 1930s vintage Universal Potteries batter pitcher.  From the company’s  Carillon line of vitrified porcelain china and Oven Proof Oxfordware kitchenware, this was named the Tip Top Jug.  Though used to pour pancake or waffle batter, the pitcher has a removable hinged type lid.  With an ice lip design, the covered batter jug could be used for serving tea, water or juice as well.

This has a shiny cream colored glaze and is decorated with an acorn and leaf motif on both sides and along the cover. It stands 8 1/2″ high to the top of the handle on the lid.  With a true Art Deco shape, it is approximately 7 1/2″ from the tip of the spout to the edge of the handle.  It holds 48 ounces.  Since paper labels were originally used, this has no backstamp or maker’s mark.  A small nick in the ring bottom foot was noted and shown in the photo with the ball point pen for reference.  The delightful old piece of kitchen pottery has  no other cracks, chips or age crazing. This is a substantial piece that weighs about 2.5 lbs. unpacked.
