Vintage Sterling Optical Illusion Brooch c 1985

Offered is a most unusual and mesmerizing vintage sterling optical illusion brooch.  The pin is difficult to describe, and even harder to photograph, so please read carefully.  With a modernist ribbed design on a solid surface, this has a square (framed from the back) transparent glass insert in the center.  At first glance, though the jewelry piece is attractive, it is also rather unassuming. It measures approximately 2 3/8″ x 1 3/8″ across the widest points.

As the light source changes direction, the center section becomes more brilliant depending on the tilt and intensity.  Colors become more opaque in appearance, and there is  movement in the design.  It has the rainbow of colors blue, silver, turquoise, magenta, yellow with reflective properties often seen in dichroic glass.  As the light increases one begins to see a rather crisp detailed pyramid structure appear, providing  the magnificent  illusion that it is raised well above the glass surface. This looks like a three dimensional  hologram of sorts. When turned over at this point the centerpiece looks like a long stepped tunnel instead of a raised structure.

The most unique jewelry piece is hand signed on the reverse side as illustrated August, 85, and Sterling. Photographs are taken in different lights and angles to hopefully illustrate the progression of clarity and intensity of the center flat glass element.    There are no condition issues.  Total weight:  12.2 grams
