Austria-Hungary Link Bracelet Garnets Turquoise 750 Silver c 1872

Presented for sale is a stunning Austria-Hungary link bracelet.  Composed of oval shaped elements attached with jump rings, it has a wearable length of 7 1/4 inches. The nine smaller components measure about 3/4″ x 1/2″ wide.  The larger piece of a similar functions as part of a push through box clasp closure. All of these pieced are decorated with sharply cut garnet stones and small turquoise cabs. Even the ring attachments have a small flower shaped platform attached to the tops. Each holds  a garnet stone in each peculiar styled bezel.  The decorative metal surfaces appear to have a light gilding and dusting of white enamel when viewed under magnification.

What was known as the Austro-Hungarian Empire dated from 1867-1918.  The hallmark stamped on the back of the box clasp portion 1s that of a Lion Head. It signifies the metal content to be of the 750 silver standard.  It also includes the letter A which is the city mark for Vienna.  The city assay marks were not included on the Lion Head mark until 1872, which helps to further narrow the dating of  this jewelry piece. The Austro-Hungarian Empire ended in 1919, but similar marks were retained until 1921.  The other half of the clasp has two small stamp marks.  On the right side is simply the letter A for Vienna, the one of the left is likely a maker’s mark yet to be identified.

This intriguing old jewelry piece has a tight locking clasp, sparkling garnets, and appears to be undamaged. Please view the many photos provided.  Total weight: 27.5 grams
