Antique Enamel Pin Children’s League of Pity 1880s

Offered is an antique jewelry pin from the 1880s. The badge is of silver over copper metal with a bird surrounded by both light and dark blue enamel work. The title is The Children’s League of Pity. Research indicates the medal was awarded to those that contributed funds to raise awareness of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children founded in 1884.

It has a slightly domed shape and measures 7/8″ in diameter. It has a simple C clasp closure and the embossed hallmark of the maker Marples & Beasley Birmingham. There is no enamel damage, but the reverse side shows wear.
